Questions worth asking before you commit.

Can I come on my own?

Yes, the trips are built for it. You share a room with others from the group of your gender, and the first evening is built for introductions.

How big is the group, and who comes?

Up to 16 travellers (14 on Rishikesh and Jordan), in their twenties and thirties, from cities across India. Every group travels with a Backpack India trip host.

How do I book?

Pick a departure, send us the prefilled WhatsApp message and hold your seat with the booking amount shown on the trip. The balance is due 30 days before departure.

What if I need to cancel?

Cancel more than 30 days out and we refund everything except the booking amount, which you can move to another departure within a year. From 30 to 15 days before departure, 50% of the trip price is refunded; under 15 days, no refund. You can transfer your seat to a friend at no cost up to 7 days before.

Where do we stay, and who shares my room?

Homestays, boutique hostels and small hotels picked for location and cleanliness. Triple sharing is the default with travellers of the same gender; double rooms are an add-on on every trip page.

Are flights included?

India trips start from the city on the trip page and include ground transport from there. Trips abroad are land packages: you book your own flights and we meet you at the airport, with a group flight suggestion if you want to travel together.

What about women travelling solo?

Same-gender rooms by default and women-only rooms on request, a host on every departure, vetted stays and drivers, and a group chat that opens two weeks before departure, so you know who is coming before you leave.

Do you help with visas?

Yes. We send the checklist for your passport and destination and answer questions as you apply. Nepal needs no visa for Indian passports, and Thailand and Kazakhstan are visa-free for short stays.

Is food included? Can I eat vegetarian?

Breakfast is included every day and some trips add group dinners; each trip page lists exactly which meals. Vegetarian and Jain food are available everywhere we go, tell us when you book.

How fit do I need to be?

Most trips need nothing more than a few hours of walking a day. Treks such as Triund and Kheerganga involve 4 to 6 hours uphill on uneven trails; the trip page says so and there is always a shorter option.
